DJ NABS thought of the day……6/20/08
June 20, 2008
“the music industry can be bad for the soul and it’s a revolving door….you have to have a strong focus and love for the music to really make it….staying in the game is equally hard..it’s not for the weak”

AN EVENING WITH GRANDMASTER FLASH
June 19, 2008
Music Executive Michael Mauldin and I recently attended a book signing with the Legendary Grandmaster Flash here in Atlanta GA (video will be posted soon). Michael was personally requested by Flash to conduct a one on one conversation style interview with him in front of a small group of fans at Borders Books on Peachtree near Lenox. Of course, i had to tag along and get my book signed. Flash was a big inspiration to me and one of the first records i learned to “cu-cu-cut” on was “The Adventures of Grand Master Flash on The Wheels Of Steel”. (Listen below)
Years ago when i was doing “Old School Sundays” at Kaya nightclub in Atlanta, my then manager Lucy Raoof (Juice), booked Grandmaster Flash for my birthday party. Here are a few snapshots from that night and of Flash’s new book that he just autographed for me.
DJ Nabs Responds to “The DJ is Dead”
June 11, 2008
IN RESPONSE TO JD ‘THE DJ IS DEAD” AND GREG STREET’S RESPONSE
First of all, i have worked with these two individuals for years. Most people in the industry know that i have been with JD as his DJ from Kris Kross to now, not to mention that i represent our DJ collective THE DEF DJS. I work with his father Michael Mauldin at mauldinbrand and So So Def has been my music industry family for my entire career which is the very reason i decided to write. On the radio side Greg was very instrumental in getting me my own show on V103 back in the mid 90’s before i eventually went to Hot 97.5 /Hot 107.9 and later XM. Greg has helped countless artist’s careers and has assisted many DJs such as myself to have an opportunity to get on air . I have respect for them both.
Obviously, there is some truth to what both these individuals have to say and without going into detail, we have to understand that this is a business and controversy (unfortunately) seems to sometimes garner more attention in the music business than the music itself. I personally feel that this could’ve been dealt with between Greg & JD personally but…..again…..when there are records to sell…it appears that using the internet to air out personal grievances is the business mold of the day.

DJS WANNA BE EXECS AND EXECS WANNA BE DJS. WHAT DID U THINK WAS GONNA EVENTUALLY HAPPEN???
I’M THE TYPE THAT THINKS BEFORE I SPEAK. MY FULL THOUGHTS ON THIS LATEST INTERNET B.S. ARE COMING SOON. IN THE MEANTIME, HERE IS THE JD VIDEO, THE GREG STREET RESPONSE AND A “REAL DJS” CLIP THAT I POSTED ON MY MYSPACE PAGE MONTHS AGO (10/18/07 to be exact) REGARDING MY THOUGHTS ON DJING IN GENERAL. I THINK IT’S RELATIVE EVEN MORE SO NOW IN LIGHT OF ALL THE RECENT CONTROVERSY REGARDING THE DJ.
STAY TUNED!!!

FREE DJ NABS MIXTAPE DOWNLOAD-Live from Sugarhill
June 6, 2008
I was warming up the other night at Sugarhill Nightclub in Atlanta GA and decided to record myself. This mixtape has no talking and instead of a set playlist of all the latest songs that’s out right now, i was just “freestyling” (mixing songs based on how i felt at the time with no particular order or genre in mind} For me, my best sets are when i concentrate on matching the beats instead of just concentrating on the “right” songs to play in order to keep the dance floor packed. In this case i recorded early enough into the night that by the time the crowd kicked in, i already had an hour or so of some freestyling recorded.
Again, this mix has no talking (except for a djnabs.com drop here and there). It’s strickly good music mixed together smoothly with some tight scratches here and there to keep it interesting.
